More than 50 University of the Rockies employees and faculty members came together on Wednesday, Aug. 7, to collect school supplies and create posters to inspire the children at the Denver Children’s Home. The event was part of the University’s “Mix-It-Up” lunch, a quarterly meeting designed to celebrate diversity at University of the Rockies.

“Denver Children’s Home was honored to be chosen as the beneficiary of the University of the Rockies’ Mix-It-Up luncheon. Community support is what allows us to continue serving the most disadvantaged youth in Colorado,” said Lindsay Leuthold, development director at Denver Children’s Home. “The kindness bestowed upon our organization by the University of the Rockies’ diversity group makes a huge impact for everyone at Denver Children’s Home. Thank you for brightening the hearts and minds of our precious children.”

The Denver Children's Home works with Colorado's most vulnerable children and families. The children often struggle with the effects of poverty, abuse, neglect, and exposure to violence. Many suffer from chronic mental health problems and learning disabilities related to these experiences.

At the “Mix It Up” lunch, employees created nine posters to decorate the walls of the Denver Children’s Home’s newly renovated gymnasium. The posters each contained an inspirational quote, such as “Be the change you want to see in the world,” “If you can dream it, you can do it,” and “Everybody is a genius.”

As part of the event, University of the Rockies collected three large boxes of school supplies, including pencils, pens, microscopes, notebooks, headphones, poster boards, glue, and much more. All supplies were donated by Rockies employees for the kids at the Denver Children’s Home.
