University of the Rockies' Dr. Debora Scheffel Contributed to Harvard Digital Learning Policy Conference

Dr. Debora Scheffel, dean of research for University of the Rockies, was one of 50 higher education experts asked to participate in the Digital Learning Policy Conference sponsored by the Harvard Program on Education Policy and Governance in cooperation with the Hoover Institution of Stanford University. The conference was held February 2-3, 2012 at Stanford University.

During working sessions, participants were given eight goals to accomplish. The goals included answering emerging questions about the role of policy and legislation in the digital learning field.

“As a group, we worked to find the appropriate balances between stimulating competition and regulating courses, as well as determining quality metrics and accreditation responsibilities,” explained Scheffel.

The Program on Education Policy and Governance will summarize participants’ thinking in a conference report. An abridged version will appear in the journal Education Next, and the full report will be circulated to federal, state and local policy makers.
