Student Engagement and Mobile Learning with Classroom Apps: Rockies Mobile CoI/FRAME Model Introduced at Sloan-C Emerging Tech Conference
Dr. Tina Parscal and Dr. Ken Sherman present at fifth-annual symposium

Representatives from University of the Rockies and Bridgepoint Education (NYSE: BPI) spoke about their model for measuring mobile learning and its effect on student engagement at last week’s fifth annual Emerging Technologies for Online Learning International Symposium in Las Vegas. The presentation, titled “A New Model to Measure Student Engagement with a Mobile Learning Tool Integrating CoI and FRAME,” was given on July 26.

“We’re thrilled to present this mobile learning engagement model to our colleagues and fellow educators,” stated co-presenter Dr. Tina Parscal, provost of University of the Rockies. “We have been confident in the effectiveness of Rockies Mobile since its genesis, and this integrated CoI/FRAME analysis has taken great strides to confirm that.”

In this model, Community of Inquiry Model (CoI) and Framework for the Rational Analysis of Mobile Education (FRAME) methodologies are used in tandem to assess the influence of mobile technology on student engagement in online environments. Of primary significance to educators and learning professionals in attendance was the growing database of empirical support for the value of Rockies Mobile and mobile learning technology developed by this analysis.

The Emerging Technologies for Online Learning International Symposium is a collaborative event held by the Sloan Consortium and MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching). The event gathered educators, academics, developers and online learning experts to learn from presenters and their fellow educational professionals.
