First Online Doctorate Degrees to be Conferred at University of the Rockies

For the first time in the University’s history, University of the Rockies’ class of 2012 will graduate doctoral students who earned their advanced degrees through the Rockies’ online education model. Of the 598 graduates from 38 states and Canada, 16 students studied for their doctoral degrees online – becoming technology trailblazers in higher education.

Most of these online doctoral degree graduates will be attending commencement ceremonies in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Oct. 28. They will don a time-honored cap and gown and march to Pomp and Circumstance in the traditional commencement ceremony. They will also have the opportunity to meet cyberspace classmates and professors face-to-face, often, for the very first time.

University of the Rockies, an advanced graduate institution specializing in social and behavioral sciences, offers its Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Development and Leadership, and its Doctor of Psychology with a selection of 10 specializations, in the online format.

“The 2012 class is a milestone in University of the Rockies' mission to shape psychology and business professionals into tomorrow's thought leaders," Dr. Charlita Shelton, president of the University of the Rockies, said. "Online education is a model for graduate students to advance their education from anywhere at anytime without disrupting and uprooting their lives."

University of the Rockies will hold its largest-ever commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28. The ceremony will be held at Pikes Peak Center in downtown Colorado Springs.
