Drs. Shelton and Kahn present "Enhancing a Climate of Engagement for the Diverse Learner"

Members and guests of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) will convene in Las Vegas on Nov. 4-9, 2012 to discuss current and emerging issues in adult education. University of the Rockies’ president, Dr. Charlita Shelton, and director of diversity, Dr. Amy Kahn, will address attendees on Nov. 6.

Together, Shelton and Kahn will present “Enhancing a Climate of Engagement for the Diverse Learner: from President’s Diversity Council to Taskforce to Community, a process for continuous improvement.” Since Shelton joined University of the Rockies in 2008, the University has gained national praise for its diversity-related efforts. In this presentation, Shelton and Kahn will share experiences, best practices and measurable results.

With more than 20 years of experience in diversity issues, Shelton has been nationally recognized as a thought-leader in diversity in higher education. She is a 2010 recipient of the “Champion of Diversity Award” from DiversityBusiness.com. In addition to serving a diverse adult student population, Shelton spearheads a comprehensive program engaging administrators and faculty to encourage and support diversity in the workforce and global business community.

Kahn began her role as director of diversity in 2009 and is charged with establishing and managing comprehensive diversity initiatives for the University. She also researches diversity in organizations, including how best to plan for and implement multi-faceted diversity programs within large organizations.
