University of the Rockies Honored with the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award
INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine announces 48 inaugural award winners

University of the Rockies received the first Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. As a winner of the HEED award – a national honor – University of the Rockies will be featured in the magazine’s December 2012 issue.

“University of the Rockies is honored to have been selected for this prestigious award.  It is a privilege to be recognized for our commitment to student success,” said Dr. Amy Kahn, Vice Provost for University of the Rockies. “Diversity is more than just our mission statement – it is who we are.

INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine selected University of the Rockies based on the University’s exemplary diversity and inclusion initiatives, and includes all aspects of diversity including gender, race, ethnicity, veteran status, disabilities and members of the LGBT community.

“We hope the HEED award serves as a reminder that diversity and inclusion must remain priorities in the higher education landscape. Every college and university should recognize the importance of diversity and inclusion as being part of their everyday life on campus,” said Lenore Peralstein, publisher of INISGHT Into Diversity magazine. “Our students of today are the employees of tomorrow and the future of our country. As students begin to enter the workforce of a global society, they must first be surrounded by and supported by faculty and staff that understand the differences among cultures and their needs.”

Other recipients of the HEED award include Case Western Reserve University, Georgia State University, Louisiana State University, Marshall University, Michigan State University, Oklahoma State University, SUNY System, Texas Tech University, United States Air Force Academy, University of Cincinnati, University of Texas at Austin, University of Virginia, Wake Forest University and others. In total, 48 colleges and universities were honored in the inaugural listing.
