Staff and Faculty at University of the Rockies Help to Feed the Hungry in Denver and Colorado Springs
1,000 pounds of food collected for local food banks

University of the Rockies staff and faculty came together to help stamp out hunger in the Denver and Colorado Springs communities. The University’s “Back to School” food drive, held Aug. 5-30, yielded a total of 1,002 pounds of food to benefit the Food Bank of the Rockies and the Care and Share Food Bank.

“Typically, our organization holds our annual food drive during the holidays. However, this year, we moved it from December to August to help provide children on the free lunch program with food for the weekend,” said Jennifer Love Bruce, associate vice president of community relations at Bridgepoint Education, University of the Rockies’ parent company. “This change proved to be a great success in helping to fight hunger in both Denver and Colorado Springs.”

Employees at Bridgepoint Education and its other academic institution, Ashford University, also participated in the effort. As a result, the organization raised 25 percent more food in 2013 than it raised in 2012.
