INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine recognizes the Rockies for third year in a row

DENVER, Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- University of the Rockies received the 2014 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The HEED Award honors higher education institutions that prioritize diversity and is the only national recognition given to colleges, universities, and school systems that exhibit outstanding efforts and success in the areas of diversity and inclusion.

"University of the Rockies is honored to have been selected for this prestigious award," said Francesca Galarraga, director of diversity for University of the Rockies. "For us, diversity fosters an environment of inclusion where our faculty, staff, and students feel welcome, appreciated, and respected. Receiving the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award compels us to continue to make diversity more than just our mission statement, but who we are."

HEED award recipients were selected based on their exemplary diversity and inclusion initiatives, and their ability to embrace a broad definition of diversity on campus, including gender, race, ethnicity, veteran status, sexual orientation, and disability status.

"We hope the HEED award serves as a way to honor those institutions of higher education that recognize the importance of diversity and inclusion as part of their everyday campus culture," said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
