University of the Rockies employees, along with employees from Ashford University and Bridgepoint Education, completed a month of service to the Denver community in April. Service activities focused on supporting youth and education in addition to ongoing sustainability efforts.

University of the Rockies and Ashford University both partnered with the Denver Public Schools Foundation and have adopted two elementary schools for the 2015-2016 school year. For two consecutive weekends, employees, friends, and family members donated their time to give Harrington Elementary School a makeover. Activities included cleaning the campus, rebuilding the school garden, painting areas inside the school, mulching the playground, and refreshing the paint on several blacktop games.

In addition to activities at Harrington Elementary, University of the Rockies employees put together hygiene bags that will be distributed to homeless students in the Denver Public School District. University of the Rockies students in town for their In-Residence weekend also assisted, putting together a total of 200 hygiene bags. Additional hygiene materials will be given to the GIVE Denver Center, an organization providing necessities for homeless residents in Denver.

The month of service ended with a location-wide UpCycle event where employees exchanged a variety of goods, keeping them out of the local landfill.

In total, more than 150 hours of service were donated to the Denver community during National Volunteer Month.
