Smart Recovery Group to be Held at University of the Rockies

University of the Rockies, a graduate school specializing in psychology programs at the master's and doctoral levels, will host a free SMART Recovery® Group in its Counseling Center this Fall. The addiction support group will meet on Thursday evenings from 6:00–7:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 14.

The group is open to the public and is designed for adults who are interested in changing addictive behaviors. Sessions will be led by doctoral students at University of the Rockies and will follow the SMART Recovery model. SMART, which stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training, is an alternative to traditional 12-step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. SMART uses common sense skills to achieve positive lifestyle changes.

In small groups, participants will talk freely, sharing ideas, support and experience. The facilitators will offer practical self-management skills and techniques to cope with urges, solve problems and find balance in life.

There is no cost to attend, although participants will have the option to purchase a handbook for $8. Registration may be completed by phone at 719.442.0606.
