University of the Rockies to Co-Host Two-Day Conference Featuring Barry Duncan

 

University of the Rockies, a graduate school specializing in psychology programs at the master's and doctoral levels, is partnering with The Psychological Society of the Pikes Peak Region (PSPPR) to host a two-day workshop with Dr. Barry Duncan.

Duncan is a leading expert and international consultant and trainer who focuses on how people change in therapy. He pioneered consumer-driven outcome measures that have transformed how mental health and substance abuse services are delivered. He has also appeared on “Oprah,” “The View,” and other national television programs.      

Duncan’s two-day conference is titled “On Becoming a Better Therapist.” It will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Colorado Springs April 9-10, 2010. Participants will learn empirically-based methods to improve therapy results, prevent drop-outs, and help non-responders. Participating psychologists, social workers, and certified substance abuse counselors can also earn continuing education credits through their respective professional organizations

About Barry L. Duncan, Psy.D.
Duncan is an international trainer and consultant, a clinical researcher, and a therapist with

over 30 years and 17,000 hours of clinical experience. He is director of the Heart and Soul of Change Project, a practice-driven training and research initiative. He also is
co-developer of the Outcome and Session Rating Scales, measures that are designed to give consumers a voice and that lead to more effective and tailored care. Duncan has received numerous awards for his contributions to the mental health field, including the Menninger Foundation’s 15th Annual Award for Scientific Writing for his book The Heart and Soul of Change. Duncan has authored over 100 publications, including 15 books. Two of Duncan’s newest books will be on sale at the workshop: The Heart & Soul of Change: Delivering What Works in Therapy (2nd edition, 2010) and On Becoming a Better Therapist (2010).
