University of the Rockies Appoints Library Director
Student Resource Center Renovation Now Underway

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- University of the Rockies, a graduate school specializing in psychology programs at the master's and doctoral levels, has appointed Trina Purcell to library director and has embarked upon a year-long renovation of its Student Resource Center.

Purcell joins the university from The Denver Public Library where she served as reference librarian, curator of photographs and digital project manager. During her career, she has also been assistant director for the New Hampshire Political Library and cemetery archivist at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston. She has a master's degree in Library and Information Science from Simmons College in Boston.

Purcell is spearheading the renovation and expansion of the University of the Rockies library, which is being conducted in three phases, including logistics, collection development and functionality.

To date, more than 120 linear feet of new shelving has been installed providing space for approximately 7,500 volumes. There's also a new circulation desk and new computer work stations.

With input from the University of the Rockies Library Advisory Committee, a collection plan is being developed to ensure that the center provides resources most important to the student learning experience.

"The purchase of online resources is at the forefront of the expansion program," Purcell said. "Our Student Resource Center serves online and on campus students. We are currently evaluating electronic databases, e-books and e-journals for our psychology and organizational leadership programs."

She adds that in terms of functionality, the top priority is to develop a comprehensive cataloguing system. "My goal is to provide a resource center that will have a positive effect on the overall student learning experience here at University of the Rockies," she said.

In addition to materials currently available at the University of the Rockies library, students have access to resources from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. "We are proponents of creating a sense of community and will invite students from the University of Colorado to utilize our library when it is complete," Purcell concluded.
