University of the Rockies (UoR) has announced the launch of a Mediation and Conflict Resolution specialization for university students pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in Psychology. “Mediation and Conflict Resolution is a growing field,” said Steve Kirkpatrick, Dean of the School of Organizational Leadership for UoR. “Mediators can resolve conflicts and disputes - a benefit to individuals, their families and their surrounding community. Understanding these disciplines has become vital to maintaining balance in society.” According to program administrators, the coursework for the Mediation and Conflict Resolution specialization applies current conflict resolution theories and strategies, as well as the study of the psycho-social dynamics of conflict, to the identification and implementation of appropriate conflict resolutions in real-life situations. This new specialization was developed for students interested in pursuing careers in Domestic Relations, Divorce Mediation, Small Business Claims Mediation, Government Mediation, Labor Negotiation, Community Relations, Employee Relations and Academic Affairs. While it is currently open to online students only, the specialization will soon be offered to campus students, as well. As with most academic Psychology programs, students interested in obtaining professional certification or licensure should consult the regulations and statutes in the state(s) where they plan to pursue their careers.
