University of the Rockies Introduces Mental Health Administration Specialization

University of the Rockies (UoR) has introduced a Mental Health Administration specialization for students pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in Psychology.

“As the demand for mental health services grows, there will be an increasing need for professionals to administer the units, agencies and institutions where these services are provided,” said Dr. Steve Kirkpatrick, Dean of the School of Organizational Leadership for UoR.  “Put simply, providing treatment services for the mentally ill and others who need acute mental health services requires a unique skill set.  Managing that environment requires a different, more administrative skill set.  This specialization focuses on that second set of skills.”

Graduates of UoR’s Psychology program with a specialization in Mental Health Administration will be academically-prepared for any number of careers, including College Professor; Executive Director; Chief Operating Officer; President or Administrator of a mental health services agency; Director or Vice President of Programs, Operations, or Community Relations for a mental health services agency, and Internal or External Mental Health Consultant.

As with most academic Psychology programs, students interested in obtaining professional certification or licensure should consult the regulations and statutes in the state(s) where they plan to pursue their careers.

This new specialization is currently being offered to UoR’s online students.  However, it will soon be offered to campus students as well.  To learn more or to apply, students may visit: http://www.rockies.edu or call 866-821-0124.
