Healing From the Historical Trauma of Slavery, Harold Fields

The University of the Rockies is pleased to be Sponsoring this important event that is open to the community. We would like to encourage students to help get the word out to the Colorado Springs and local community about this event.  At the Harvey House of the University of the Rockies, in the Old Railroad Station Building.  Cost: $10; $5 for high school & college students.  The institution of U.S. slavery was critical to the development of this country.  It was a shared trauma for everybody in the society.  It created a social DNA that prevented healthy and honest relationships between people who have been separated from one another based on beliefs about race and the social and structural systems built to maintain those beliefs. During the discussion participants will view the film “Coming to the Table” to initiate an interactive session to look at the impact of the unresolved trauma that affects the entire society, how to find root causes, cultivate resilience, and move toward healing. This workshop will by facilitated by Harold Fields, a nationally respected leader in the field of racial dialogue. He has been the prime facilitator of a “Race Group” in Denver, Colorado, sponsored by the Tattered Cover Bookstore that has met monthly for approximately ten years.  He is a facilitator for the national initiative Coming to the Table.  He also has been involved in the creation of the documentary “Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North” which just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. See www.comingtothetable.org and www.tracesofthetrade.org for more information.
