Black History Live is an annual state-wide performance tour where nationally recognized scholars portray African-Americans who have made important contributions to U.S. history.

The 2011 tour features a man known only as “York” who was enslaved to William Clark for nearly 30 years. As a slave, York joined Clark and Meriwether Lewis in the first U.S. expedition to the Pacific Ocean.

York will be portrayed by Hasan Davis, a noted poet, scholar, storyteller, youth advocate and business owner. He holds a juris doctorate degree from the University of Kentucky and serves on the Federal Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee.

The Black History Live Tour is produced by Colorado Humanities to raise awareness of the contributions African-Americans have made to our history and culture. For more information, visit www.coloradohumanities.org.
