Ethics Workshop Featuring Dr. Stephen Behnke to be Held in Colorado Springs

Dr. Stephen Behnke, director of the ethics office for the American Psychological Association (APA), will deliver a full-day workshop titled “Ethics and Ethical Decision Making for Psychologists” on Saturday, July 16. The workshop begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (2886 S. Circle Drive).

The workshop is presented by the Colorado Psychological Association with support from the Psychological Society of the Pikes Peak Region and University of the Rockies.

“It is of utmost importance that psychologists are making ethical decisions,” said Dr. Deborah Elliott-DeSorbo, core faculty member at University of the Rockies and president of the Psychological Society of the Pikes Peak Region. “We frequently work with individuals who are vulnerable and who are relying on our expertise. It’s our duty to our clients and to the profession to uphold the highest of ethical standards in our clinical practice, research and publication.”

Dr. Behnke, who will lead the workshop, has served as director of APA’s ethics division since 2000. Prior to that appointment, he was chief psychologist at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center and directed a program in research integrity at Harvard Medical School. He holds a juris doctorate degree from Yale Law School and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Michigan. His research focuses on the convergence of law, ethics and psychology.

Attendance is encouraged for individuals working in the fields of psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy and healthcare.

The APA will grant six continuing education credits for workshop participation. For continuing education and registration details, contact the Colorado Psychological Association at 303.692.9303.
