Free psychotherapy sessions available to those impacted by Waldo Canyon Fire
Individuals who need to debrief with an experienced therapist in a confidential and supportive setting – without becoming a client or making a commitment to therapy – are invited to visit Rockies Counseling Center. Well-trained and supervised graduate students are available to provide psychotherapy services to individuals who are currently impacted by the fires occurring at this time. Individuals will receive up to three free sessions at Rockies Counseling Center located on-site at University of the Rockies (555 E. Pikes Peak Ave.). “We’ve talked about the economic and natural effects of the Waldo Canyon Fire, but we also have to remember the impacts on mental health,” says Dr. Marian Edelbrock, director of behavioral health at University of the Rockies. “Natural disasters can cause tremendous anxiety regardless of how close to home the incident occurs. We need to care for the mental health of those who are evacuated and of those who are working tirelessly to contain the fires. The Waldo Canyon Fire is being severely felt by this community.” Services will be provided on a drop-in or call-ahead basis. Rockies Counseling Center is open between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The phone number for additional information is 719.442.0606.
