A free learning opportunity for mental healthcare providers
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will host a free, five-week class for mental healthcare providers and others who work with individuals and families affected by mental illness. The course, held at University of the Rockies, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, and will meet weekly. Called “Provider Education,” the course offers a penetrating view of family and consumer experiences with serious mental illness. The course is designed to help healthcare providers realize the hardships that families and consumers face and the important role that families can play in treatment and recovery. “NAMI dedicates itself to helping families who face the challenge of a loved one’s major mental illness,” said Lori Jarvis-Steinwert, NAMI-Colorado Springs’ executive director. “When mental healthcare providers partner with families the prognosis and hope for recovery improves dramatically.” The course is taught by a panel, to include family members, those living with mental illness (consumers) and a mental health professional who is also a family member or consumer. To register for this free learning opportunity, call 719.473.8477 or email namicos@qwestoffice.net.
