University of the Rockies' School of Professional Psychology Dean joins efforts to standardize and license correctional care
Dr. David Stephens has been invited to join a national task force on correctional mental health standards led by the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare. Members of the task force are developing a certification program for mental health care providers who work in correctional facilities. According to Stephens, who serves University of the Rockies as dean of the School of Professional Psychology, the mental health needs of incarcerated individuals often bear unique symptoms and challenges. Stephens joined University of the Rockies as dean in 2011. Previously, he served as the regional director of mental health for Correctional Healthcare Management. He also served as the chief of Behavioral Health Services for the Colorado Department of Corrections.
