Academic experts discuss instructional design strategies for academic success
On Friday, November 8, 2013, four members of University of the Rockies’ academic staff joined 40 other experts on accessibility and curriculum access in higher education at the 2013 Accessing Higher Ground Conference in Westminster, Colo. The conference focuses on the implementation and benefits of accessible media, universal design, and assistive technology in the university, business and public setting. University of the Rockies’ academic staff members Chadd Spencer, Dr. Julie Frese, Dr. Marilyn Force, and Francesca Galarraga presented Using Universal Instructional Design: A Study of Faculty Processes and Universal Instructional Design Strategies to Broaden the Pathway to Academic Success. Dr. Force introduced the grounded principles of Universal Instructional Design (UID), Spencer explained how University of the Rockies implements UID and the Quality Matters rubric, and Dr. Frese shared the results of a questionnaire distributed to University of the Rockies faculty. To conclude the presentation, University of the Rockies Director of Diversity Francesca Galarraga discussed how the application of UID will enhance an inclusive environment for all students.
