University recognized among top schools supporting service members
DENVER, Sept. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- University of the Rockies has been named a Military Friendly School® by G.I. Jobs magazine. The list recognizes the top colleges, universities, and trade schools nationwide with respect to how they support military service members and veteran students to promote success in the classroom and after graduation. "Inclusion on the 2015 list of Military Friendly Schools® shows University of the Rockies' commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students," said Dr. Charlita Shelton, president and chief executive officer of University of the Rockies. "As a former Marine, I am highly sensitive to the challenges our armed forces face – both in the line of duty and as they pursue higher education. I'm proud of this recognition and of the assistance and opportunities we are able to provide service members." The 2015 List of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through extensive research and by surveying more than 4,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. Schools on the list offer military scholarships and discounts, veterans clubs, military credit, and other services to those who have served in the armed forces. University of the Rockies offers its military students financial benefits such as the Post-9/11 GI Bill, the Yellow Ribbon Program, active duty military tuition grants, and textbook benefits. The University is also a Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) institution, allowing it to award academic transfer credit for graduate-level equivalent military training and job experience.
