DENVER, Oct. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- University of the Rockies will hold its commencement ceremony at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Mile High Ballroom at the Colorado Convention Center, 700 14th Street. Graduates and their guests from across the country will converge on Denver to take part in the ceremony. Two graduating students have been selected to deliver speeches at the ceremony after winning University of the Rockies' commencement speaker contest. Waianae, Hawaii resident Shirley Davenport and Union, N.J. resident Elois Phillips will speak on the theme of "Living Your Legacy." Davenport, 56, is receiving a doctoral degree in psychology. A licensed social worker and certified substance abuse counselor, Davenport says the speech theme, "provided the opportunity to reflect on the things that I truly embrace, value, and that have helped me throughout my life." She will travel to graduation with her husband, Calvin, and is looking forward to meeting her professors in person for the first time. Phillips, 30, works as a program counselor at a treatment center in conjunction with a correctional facility. She is receiving a master's degree in psychology. "Pursuing my degree has been a growing experience and has allowed me to view my educational goals in a new light," said Phillips. After graduation, she plans to pursue a doctorate degree and hopes to one day work as a criminal profiler for the FBI.
