On Saturday, October 18, University of the Rockies held its annual commencement ceremony at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver. Many of the graduates and their guests traveled from across the country to participate in the ceremony and related events. The University conferred 411 master’s and doctoral degrees since last year’s commencement. In addition to the degrees, numerous awards and scholarships were presented during the commencement brunch held in the morning prior to the ceremony. The J. Frank Rice, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Adrienne Burris. Burris also received the President’s Diversity Scholarship, a distinction that was bestowed upon Natsumi Minagawa and Kisha Tungate as well. Nicole Hohl received the James R. Gregg Memorial Scholarship and Daniel Johnson received the Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Scholarship. Scholarships were also awarded to online students Angel Brutus for Diversity, Kim Ann Damewood for Presidential Alumni, Sara Basque for Excellence in Psychology, and Sadie Ng for Excellence in Organizational Development and Leadership. Dr. Allen Cornelius was named University of the Rockies Outstanding Faculty of the Year, and Linda Bourgeois was named Outstanding Staff of the Year. Both honors were selected by University of the Rockies students. Dr. Marian Edelbrock was presented with the Provost Award during commencement. Two graduating students delivered speeches at the ceremony after winning the University of the Rockies commencement speaker contest. Waianae, Hawaii resident Shirley Davenport and Union, N.J. resident Elois Phillips spoke on the theme of “Living Your Legacy.” About University of the Rockies |
