University of the Rockies, a leading graduate school focusing on the behavioral and social sciences, announced that it will be a school partner for Jessie Whaley Maxwell Elementary School for the 2015-2016 academic year. The partnership is a result of a program sponsored by the Denver Public Schools Foundation (DPSF) and the Mile High United Way.

University of the Rockies is expanding on its current partnership with DPSF by helping to meet a variety of needs at Maxwell. The elementary school serves a highly-diverse student population and 91 percent of its students qualify for free and/or reduced lunch, an indicator of poverty. The University will provide literacy tutoring for first and second grade students as well as financial support to the school. To kick off the partnership, the University provided more than 50 full uniforms to the school.

The principal of Maxwell, Nivan Khosravi, is excited to welcome University of the Rockies as an official school partner. Khosravi said: “In the important, life-changing work we are charged with as educators, we know that it truly does take a village – a community of support to ensure our students have access to a high quality education that prepares every child for college or a career. We are overjoyed that University of the Rockies has stepped up as a community partner. We look forward to the support they will provide, and to partnering with University of the Rockies to ensure each of our students meets their potential.”

The partnership between Maxwell and University of the Rockies will benefit both organizations as it will also provide Rockies employees with volunteer opportunities in the Denver community.
