Tom McCarty and Dr. Karen Smith brings years of experience to University of the Rockies Board
Tom McCarty and Dr. Karen Smith have accepted positions on the Board of Trustees for University of the Rockies. They joined the Board in January 2016. McCarty is a marketing and management consultant with extensive experience in general management, sales, marketing, strategy, and analytics. He helps companies find opportunities for growth while focusing their efforts to improve performance. He was the senior vice president of strategy and product marketing for University of Phoenix. McCarty has also served as general manager at Aptimus, an online advertising company that delivers results-driven advertising solutions and management technology to advertisers, web publishers, and ad agencies across all digital media channels. Dr. Smith brings more than 20 years of financial and higher education leadership to the Board. As a finance executive in both publicly- and privately-held companies, Dr. Smith’s knowledge will provide the University of the Rockies Board of Trustees with broad expertise in financial and operational best practices, particularly in economically complex and competitive environments. Her board experience includes serving as board director at Quadrem, a technology company. Dr. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from University of Delaware and a PhD in accounting and quantitative methods from University of Texas at Austin. She is also a certified public accountant in the State of Arizona. “Tom McCarty and Dr. Karen Smith will be great additions to the University of the Rockies Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Dawn Iwamoto, University of the Rockies president. “Their combined years of experience and knowledge in higher education will definitely benefit the Board and University of the Rockies.”
