University of the Rockies Supports Hurricane Matthew Disaster Relief Efforts

University of the Rockies, a leading graduate school of social and behavioral studies, has made an additional donation to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts from Hurricane Matthew. University of the Rockies currently supports the American Red Cross through the university’s Mile High chapter and is a bronze member for the American Red Cross’ Ready365 giving program, a corporate and foundation partnership opportunity.

“We have students and faculty members that live in areas damaged by Hurricane Matthew,” said Dr. Dawn Iwamoto, University of the Rockies president and CEO. “In addition to supporting our local Denver community, it is important to University of the Rockies that we contribute to the communities in which our students and employees live and work.”

According to the American Red Cross, U.S. officials are reporting damage from Florida to the Carolinas due to Hurricane Matthew of at least $10 billion, making Matthew the costliest hurricane since Hurricane Sandy hit in 2012. With Hurricane Matthew disaster relief, the American Red Cross has provided 85,000 overnight stays in shelters; served more than 444,000 meals and snacks; distributed more than 78,000 relief items; deployed 225 response vehicles to deliver relief in hard-hit areas; and supported more than 13,000 health and mental health services to victims of Matthew.
