University of the Rockies today announced it has transitioned to a new learning management system (LMS) called Canvas. Created by Instructure, Canvas is an open online learning interface that is crafted to make teaching and learning easier. The system allows academic institutions to develop, deliver, and manage engaging face-to-face and online learning experiences. “University of the Rockies is excited to roll out Canvas to its students, faculty, and staff,” said Dr. Dawn Iwamoto, president of University of the Rockies. “This learning management system meets our institution’s high standards, and I am confident the Canvas platform will help to create a greater sense of faculty presence and student camaraderie in the classroom.” An added benefit of the Canvas LMS is that it allows students to use the platform via mobile application. In addition, the Canvas LMS also offers a course notification system and collaborative workspaces for groups to utilize. This type of capability will help students streamline the process of completing digital assignments. For instructional faculty, Canvas simplifies teaching by providing an intuitive LMS platform that is easy for educators and administrators to navigate.
