Free Screening of "The Black Candle" to be held at University of the Rockies

 

The Black Candle, an award-winning documentary about Kwanzaa, narrated by Dr. Maya Angelou, will play at the Harvey House Auditorium on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m.

The one-time screening is sponsored by University of the Rockies’ Office of Diversity and is open to the public. There is no cost to attend, seating is limited, and an RSVP is required. Seats may be reserved by calling 719.442.0505 ext. 1672.

The Black Candle is a landmark film that uses Kwanzaaa as a vehicle to explore and to celebrate the African-American experience. The documentary traces the holiday’s growth out of the Black Power Movement in the 1960s to its present-day reality. Filmed across the United States, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean, it features vivid cinematography and an all-star cast of professional athletes, hip hop icons and artists, among others.
