University of the Rockies, a graduate school specializing in psychology programs at the master’s and doctoral levels, won the for-profit category of the “Raising the Bar on Diversity and Inclusion” award on August 10. The awards were presented by The Colorado Springs Business Journal in alliance with the Colorado Springs Diversity Forum. The Raising the Bar category honors “cutting-edge nominees who exemplify inclusive greatness.” Since 2007, University of the Rockies has implemented a number of diversity initiatives – administratively, in the community, and in its classrooms. “Diversity is one of our core values,” said Dr. Charlita Shelton, president of University of the Rockies. “We like to say that we do more than just talk about it. It’s very rewarding to have an independent panel of judges agree. And, it’s a great honor to be recognized as a leader of diversity among this field of advocates.” The University’s diversity efforts are led by Dr. Amy Kahn, director of Diversity, who reports directly to the president. Campus activities are executed by a Diversity Task Force comprised of students, faculty and staff, and by the Graduate Student Association. University of the Rockies is also among the first regionally accredited learning institutions to offer an Organizational Diversity specialization as part of its master’s and doctoral psychology programs.
