Dr. David J. Stephens, dean of the School of Professional Psychology at University of the Rockies, has contributed a chapter to the textbook “Correctional Mental Health: From Theory to Best Practice.”

The textbook is a guide for graduate students in corrections, correctional counseling and criminal justice who are learning to treat offenders in a correctional mental health practice.

The Chapter, authored by Dr. Stephens, covers substance abuse and co-occurring disorders among criminal offenders. Dr. Stephens has extensive background working with incarcerated individuals. Prior to joining University of the Rockies, he served as the regional director of mental health for Correctional Healthcare Management and as the chief of Behavioral Health Services for the Colorado Department of Corrections. He has also worked in corrections facilities in Missouri, Idaho, New Mexico and Wyoming.
