University of the Rockies, a graduate school specializing in the social and behavioral sciences, has become a Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) institution. As a SOC school, University of the Rockies can now award academic transfer credit for graduate-level equivalent military training and job experience. Membership in SOC also simplifies the credit transfer process and residency requirements for military students. SOC was created in 1972 to provide educational opportunities to active duty military members and their families, whose frequent moves can hinder access to higher education. “University of the Rockies is committed to supporting the educational efforts of our military men and women. As a SOC member institution, we can now provide greater access to higher education to our military students,” said Dr. Charlita Shelton, president. As an accredited institution, University of the Rockies already offers its military students financial benefits like the Post-9/11 GI Bill, the Yellow Ribbon Program, Active Duty Military Tuition Grants and book benefits.
