Rockies Counseling Center (RCC) will host a community open house on Friday, June 3. The event will begin in the Harvey House Auditorium at University of the Rockies (555 East Pikes Peak Ave.) at 4:00 p.m. RCC is a community counseling center operated on-site at University of the Rockies. The center serves individuals, children and families in the Pikes Peak area with a range of high-quality, low-cost therapy services. In the past year, RCC has provided over 4,000 therapy sessions to individuals in the community, serving many people who otherwise might not have received care. “The need for quality mental and behavioral healthcare in this community is great. We are pleased to be filling a need while also providing our students with the best possible training,” said Dr. Bob Edelbrock, vice president and campus director. RCC recently underwent extensive renovation to create a best-in-class facility for the community. Students who are training to become mental health providers practice their psychotherapy skills in the clinic under the supervision of licensed clinical psychologists. With the renovations, the clinic now has twelve therapy rooms, including spaces for music therapy, art therapy, play therapy, mindfulness therapy and psychological testing. “We are creating an exemplary training facility,” said Dr. Marian Edelbrock, director of behavioral health, who oversees the clinic. “Our students are being exposed to a wide range of therapies, which will help them discover techniques and preferences that they will incorporate into their own practices someday.” The RCC has also acquired equipment necessary for neuropsychology and biofeedback. Using electroencephalography (EEG), trained psychologists can view and analyze brain activity in patients. The community open house will include a ribbon cutting ceremony led by the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and interactive tours of the facility. To attend this free event, RSVP to 719.442.0606. Private tours will also be available upon request.
