At last week’s New Media Consortium (NMC) Summer Conference in Madison, Wis., Bridgepoint Education (NYSE: BPI) presented the Rockies Mobile app, its innovative full-spectrum classroom application for Apple’s iPhone. Rockies Mobile provides students from University of the Rockies, a Bridgepoint academic institution, an in-depth campus interface specifically designed for a device they are already using daily. The Rockies Mobile app was available for firsthand experimentation during the NMC Emerging Technologies Poster and Interactives Session. Bridgepoint’s manager of learning technologies & resources Kyle Landin taught attendees about the app, demonstrating its capacity for remote coursework and online campus access. “We’re pleased that Rockies Mobile is a part of the New Media Consortium’s Summer Conference,” stated Beth Aguiar, Bridgepoint’s vice president of learning resources & publishing. “We believe the value of classroom apps and mobile learning access for modern students will continue to prove itself as the technology evolves, and Bridgepoint is at the forefront of the development process.” The NMC is a collaborative of learning, academic and research facilities that seek to expand the use of new media and technologies in teaching and creative expression. The group’s 2011 Horizon Report cited Bridgepoint Education’s Constellation classroom software as a prime example of emerging eBook technology. The NMC Summer Conference is a gathering of all interested parties for workshops, speakers, conferences and product demonstrations. More information on the NMC can be found at nmc.org.
