Jill Davis Named Outstanding Student of the Year
Faculty, Staff and Students Honored at University of the Rockies Graduation

 

Jill Davis was named “Outstanding Student of the Year” during University of the Rockies’ commencement ceremony on Saturday, August 20. Davis is working toward her doctorate degree in clinical psychology and is president of the University’s Graduate Student Association.

The “Outstanding Student of the Year” award is presented annually to a doctorate student selected by the Faculty Senate. Criteria for the award includes academic excellence, leadership and service to the field of psychology.

“Jill has done an outstanding job in her roles as Graduate Student Association president and as a doctoral student pursuing clinical psychology,” said Dr. David Stephens, dean of the School of Professional Psychology. “She is an excellent student who is committed to attaining the academic knowledge and the clinical skills that will make her an outstanding psychologist.”

As this year’s winner, Davis will ride in a hot air balloon at the Colorado Balloon Classic held Labor Day weekend in Colorado Springs.

Also honored at the graduation ceremony were students Ashley Jelks, Terrie Martinez and Shannon Wilson:

·         Jelks earned the J. Frank Rice, Jr. Memorial Scholarship which is presented annually to a minority student who values the pursuit of knowledge, serves the common good and intends to become a clinical psychologist.

·         Martinez was granted the Josephine Lyle Cowan and E. Garland Cowan, Sr., Memorial Scholarship, given annually to a student who intends to provide professional service to people in religious organizations.

·         Wilson was awarded the James R. Gregg Memorial Scholarship, given in honor of an alumnus of the Colorado School of Professional Psychology.
 

Faculty and staff also received honors during the commencement exercises:

·         The “Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award” was presented to Dr. Allen Cornelius, a core faculty member in the School of Professional Psychology.

·         The “Outstanding Staff of the Year Award” was given to Dr. Marian Edelbrock, director of behavioral training, who oversees Rockies Counseling Center.  

·         Dr. David Solly, core faculty member in the School of Professional Psychology, was presented with the “Provost’s Award” and was also named Dean Emeritus.
