Increased benefits provided to American soldiers, military families, supporters and survivors
To honor the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, University of the Rockies has increased available benefits for members of the armed forces, now including spouses of active duty service members, the National Guard and reservists, as well as Department of Defense (DOD) employees, civilian employees of the U.S. Coast Guard, students with Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits and VA employees. In doing so, University of the Rockies has expanded educational opportunities and services for those who defend our country, as well as for their families and the people who support them. University of the Rockies, a Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) academic institution, has deeply rooted relationships with U.S. servicemen and women. In an ongoing commitment to the military, the university makes regular efforts to support service members and those around them. “In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, it was our men and women in uniform who received the call,” stated Doug Barling, senior director of Military Relations. “Many sacrifices have been made along the way. Offering our support is a good place to start in expressing our thanks to not only those Americans who stand in harm’s way, but to those who directly support them.” As a part of University of the Rockies’ gesture to honor Americans in the military, their families and those who support them on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, the university will extend the availability of military grants. University of the Rockies will make these grants available to all members of the U.S. military, their spouses, plus members of the National Guard, reservists, Department of Defense employees, civilian employees of the Coast Guard, students using VA education benefits and Veterans Affairs employees. Alongside extended benefits already arranged for members of the military, ancillary personnel, and their families, University of the Rockies has introduced the Surviving Spouses Scholarship. This new program will include free tuition, books and additional benefits for the spouses of fallen service members who attended the university within the previous year. University of the Rockies will also offer a process for awarding posthumous degrees to students who passed away prior to fulfilling their educational aspirations.
