The Orange County Substance Abuse Prevention Network (OCSAPN) has awarded Dr. Dallas Stout, faculty member at University of the Rockies, with its Sixth Annual Linda Kearns Community Prevention Award. The award was presented at the non-profit organization's Annual Showcase of Community Prevention Efforts. 

OCSAPN, founded in 1980, is committed to positive youth development programs and prevention services in Orange County. Stout, a Fullerton, Calif. resident, has served on the organization's executive committee for more than 18 years, including chair for several years. In addition to his faculty role at University of the Rockies – a graduate school specializing in master's and doctorate degree programs in social and behavioral sciences offered online and on-campus – Stout is on the faculty of California State University Fullerton.

The award honors Linda Kearns' 30-plus years of work in the field of youth, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, AIDS and pregnancy prevention, as well as other positive youth development initiatives. In bestowing the award, Kearns said, "I met Stout more than 19 years ago when he was an intern for Straight Talk Counseling Clinic as a part of his undergraduate work. He began volunteering his time working with several county coalitions and it was evident he was a dedicated and committed member.

"More recently in 2010, he was elected president of the California Chapters of the Brady Campaign to Reduce Gun Violence. He believes in the power of coalitions and is a strong advocate, leader and a mentor for his community."

In accepting the award, Stout said, "I am both surprised and honored to receive this wonderful acknowledgement."

About Dr. Dallas Stout

Dallas M. Stout, PsyD, has worked in the Southern California non-profit community for most of the last 20 years. Dr. Stout is on the faculty of California State University Fullerton and the University of the Rockies. Stout earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Azusa Pacific University where he graduated with special recognition for his work with troubled youth and their families. His interests in psychology include troubled teens (including substance abuse, violence and gangs), mentoring, personal motivation, leadership and cultural diversity.
