Parscal and Lucas delve into the processes behind building the Rockies Mobile app
At this week’s 23rd Annual WCET Connect Conference in Denver, attendees from the technology and education industries will join University of the Rockies’ provost, Dr. Tina Parscal, and director of assessment and academic quality, Dr. George Lucas, for a conversation about building university-specific applications for mobile devices and improving student connectivity. Parscal and Lucas’ hands-on presentation will discuss the facts behind the Rockies Mobile app, which was developed for the university by parent company Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI). Their focus will include the strategy, technology and viability of learning apps and mobile campus interaction. App use data gathered during Rockies students’ first months of use will be a part of the discussion, anchoring students’ preferences with measured results. “There are many schools that hope to make the same mobile functionality we’ve created for University of the Rockies available to their students,” stated Dr. Parscal. “Our session on mobile app strategy for modern learners will guide event-goers into the process, including what is viable both strategically and creatively.” Rockies Mobile’s pioneering success as an all-encompassing classroom and campus app evolved from the need to embrace non-traditional students’ mobile lives. Its creation, from concept to consumer-ready application, established Bridgepoint Education’s app and platform development program as a front-line innovator behind the modern digital classroom. In addition to their Saturday morning presentation, “Mobile Strategy Engages Non-Traditional Students,” Parscal and Lucas will participate as expert panelists at the WCET Connect Conference. Parscal and Deborah Riemer, from Bridgepoint Education’s Ashford University, will speak at the “Assuring Quality in Online Course Development” panel on Thursday at 3:15 p.m., and Lucas is slated for a discussion titled “Learning Assessment Systems that Work” on Friday at 11:00 a.m. The WCET Connect Conference is a gathering of e-learning experts and visionaries, meeting to share and borrow ideas that improve the way education works. This year’s conference is in Denver, Colo., from October 26 through October 29. Learn more at wcetconference.wiche.edu/.
