Emotional Intelligence: The Sine Qua Non of Leadership

No longer are aspects of emotional intelligence considered “nice to have” in business leaders – we now know they are a “need to have.”

University of the Rockies will host an interactive presentation that explores emotional intelligence and how it plays a key role in determining success in life and in the workplace on Tuesday, September 28. The free professional development seminar will discuss emotional intelligence as a critical leadership competency.

The seminar begins at 11:30 a.m. in University of the Rockies’ Harvey House Auditorium at 555 East Pikes Peak Avenue. There is no cost to attend this event, and lunch will be provided.

The session will also include information as to what constitutes emotional intelligence, its relationship to leadership, and how it can be developed. Drs. Stephen Kirkpatrick and Gina Hernez-Broome will lead the presentation.

Kirkpatrick is dean of the School of Organizational Leadership and vice president for publications at University of the Rockies. He has over 35 years of experience in industrial and organizational psychology and as a consultant to Fortune 100 businesses and not-for-profit associations.

Hernez-Broome is a core faculty member within University of the Rockies’ School of Organizational Leadership. Prior to joining the University, Hernez-Broome was a program manager and lead researcher at the Center for Creative Leadership. Her recent books include Selling Yourself without Selling Out: A Leader’s Guide to Ethical Self-Promotion and Advancing Executive Coaching: Setting the Course for Successful Leadership Coaching (due Fall 2010).

Space is limited, so an RSVP is required by September 24. Respond by phone to 866.442.0808.
